Got A Swiffer – Save Money With A Microfiber Cloth!

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Do you have a “Swiffer” or Pledge Sweeper?

Are you tired of having to buy cloths to use on them?

Are you looking for a better alternative?

Try a microfiber cloth instead!

Just place a 16 x 16 all purpose microfiber cleaning cloth around the head, pushing the ends into the holes on the top of the sweeper, and dust away. When full of dirt, remove and shake out; when finished just wash in your regular laundry or rinse out in detergent and hot water.

Need to mop the floor, just wet the cloth in hot water and mop up those dirty spots. Works great on all hard surface floors.

Got a window you can’t reach, try washing it with your sweeper with a wet cloth attached. Just dry it with a dry cloth attached to the mop.

Easier Cleanup with Microfiber!

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

In the wee hours of the morning, yesterday, we got a deluge of rain. We got 4.8 inches of rain, and someone that lives about 8 miles from us, said it came in about one hour.

That was allot of rain to come in such a short period of time. We had water coming into our basement in places it never had come in before. I think it was coming so fast that it just didn’t have a chance to “run” away and it was “looking” for a place to go.

The basement of our house was built in 1948 and it cement blocks. I have worked on caulking and sealing the walls with a sealing caulk and hydraulic cement. After this storm I have even more places now to fix.

At 1:20 am I woke up my husband and we started sucking up water, he used our shop vac and I used a double sided plush microfiber cloth.  It worked really well to pick up the water. I placed it down on the water, soaking it up, and then I would wring it out. It didn’t take long to pick up a 5 quart pail of water.

I even had water shooting out of a very small hole in our kitchen wall. I was amazed, for this never happened before, but with the water pressure against the wall on the outside it was looking for a place to go. I just set a bucket under the stream and collected it.

So if you ever need a cloth with super absorbency, check out using a microfiber cleaning cloth.

Clean Up Pet Hair, Dust Balls On Carpet With A Microfiber Mop!

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Do you have carpet in your home?

Do you have pets?

Need an easier way to clean up pet hair, dust balls under furniture that sits on carpet?

Try using a microfiber mop with a dry pad to roll up hair and dust into a ball for easier pickup with your vacuum cleaner.

Microfiber mops also work great on all solid flooring. Using a microfiber mop makes dusting your floors easier, with it’s sturdy aluminum telescoping handle. It’s long reach will help you dust under couches and beds with ease. Got pets that shed, you need a microfiber mop to quickly and easily pick up the pet hair. When the pad fills up, just remove and shake it outside, replace and continue dusting.

Them microfiber pads are reusable and washable, saving you money over buying replaceable towels for Swifter or Pledge dusters. Need to damp mop – just wet the pad and wash your floors!

The mop is also very useful for dusting down walls, with it’s sturdy  6 ft reach handle.

Have you ever wanted to quickly clean up a pair of tennis shoes? All you need is a dampened microfiber cloth. On Saturday I wanted to wear my tennis shoes to the Renaissance Fair @ Chippewa Falls, Wis., but my shoes were rather dirty from working in the garden.

So I wet an all purpose microfiber cleaning cloth and “washed” them. The microfiber help clean them up in a jiffy.

Microfiber cloths can help you clean up lots of things:

  • they are great for washing windows
  • use them for washing your car
  • use them to clean up your RV or any recreational vehicle
  • use them keeping the oil off of your bowling ball for a better grip
  • how you guitar players, your strings will last longer if you wipe them with a microfiber cloth after playing
  • bikers – keep one in your pocket, to wipe your hands on, for a better grip
  • microfiber head bands work great to keep sweat out of your eyes, while biking or gardening
  • keep one in your car for emergency cleanups
  • they work well for burp cloths or a diaper
  • dust your home or office with one

Help A Friend In Need!

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Helping a friend in need, is a great thing to do!

If we would share some of our resources and jobs with friends and neighbors as was done when I was a kid, we could save each other money. If you have a talent, help someone. If you have extra flowers and vegetables – share them with friends and neighbors and help to build better relationships.

We have a neighbor, who we share our veggies with, and when we need some help with our lawn mower, tiller or snow blower he fixes it for us, free of charge.

Use the barter system, by sharing job needs. People used to pay each in food, meat or work instead of money. That might be a “new” concept but a growing one in this tough economic climate.

Tuesday I helped a friend catch up on some needed bookwork. They farm and her husband has been laid up for 7 weeks. Talk about stress, with cows to milk and cattle to feed everyday, it has become quite a load for her and the girls. So last week we helped them get ready for an inspection, this week I helped her with bookwork. We all need to move outside ourselves and lives more, to help someone in need.

With the tornadoes happening this past weekend, neighbors and strangers showed up to help others. It makes for a better place to live, when we get out of ourselves and help another. It will make you more appreciative of what you have and you will be blessing another person or family.

Sharing jobs saves resources also and helps make for a better world!

lettuce from the garden

Spring is in the air, and soon we will be able to plant garden. Hurrah! Fresh, home grown vegetable – grown without chemicals.

We like to plant lettuce, spinach, and kale in the spring, as soon as the ground warms up. We also put in peas, onions and carrots.

It is so nice to be able to go out into the garden and pick some fresh vegetables that are full of nutrients and flavor.

I have to protect my peas from the deer, for they seem to enjoy some fresh green stuff too.

So if you have a garden plot or even have the space to put in a raised bed, you can plant your own spring vegetables. It will help you have more nutritious food for your table and save you money besides.

Happy Gardening!

Keep A Suede Cloth In Your Gun Case!

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Got a gun with a scope, then you need to keep a 8″ x 8″ microfiber suede lens cloth in your gun case or pocket while hunting. They are soft, superabsorbent with ultrasonic edges, to have you keep your scope lens clean, for that great shot.

Microfiber lens cloths clean without scratching,  just remember to keep them clean. Dirt can scratch but the microfiber won’t.

They are also great for cleaning your glasses or the lens on your camera. You can use them slightly damp or dry.

Need a quick wipe, use them for that too.

The Saga of Our Guineas!

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Today we lost “Grace” our last guinea, to another night time creature.

Last spring we purchased 6 guineas from a farmer to help keep our yard free of ticks and bugs.

After letting them out of their pen, they roamed – “worked” our yard and our neighbor’s yard as well, which they didn’t mind. People, driving by, would see them in the field and stop and take pictures of them. They are quite interesting birds.

Slowly we lost them to other creatures one after the other. Grace survived the rest of the clan through the fall and into winter. She slept in the pine trees in our yard, and ate bird seed with the other birds. We really enjoyed watching her and them “work” our yard.

Grace would “talk” to me from the tree tops, so I knew she was still hanging around. They are very wary birds, we were never able to hold her and pet her, but we enjoyed having her in our yard.

So we will miss Grace and also our cat – Creamy- who also has been missing since 12-7-09. We think he became “lunch” too, for another night time creature.

The farmer we got them from has raised many of them, and has had them for a number of years. We live in an area of allot of lakes and wild land, even though we are pretty much surrounded by crop land. But we have numerous wild creatures in our area – such as wolves, coyotes, foxes, fishers, owls, eagles, turkey vultures and numerous other animals and predatory birds. It seems the numbers of these types of animals are increasing in our area. I also have been noticing a decrease in our song and winter bird populations. This also might be an indication of more predatory species in the area.

So today ends our stint with the guineas. I would love to  have more of them, but don’t want them to become “lunch” for other animals.
