Save Money By Keeping Your Refrigerator Full!
Yes, your refrigerator and freezers do run more efficiently if they are full, saving electricity which counts for being more “green”.
Don’t have enough produce or meat to keep them full, there hasn’t been a real good sale lately or you are just low on cash. Well here are some suggestions for keeping it full easily.
Do you have lots of those plastic grocery bags laying around. Stuff a bunch into one bag and stick them in your freezer.
How about a bag of newspapers or as I have seen a friend do – he put rolls of toilet paper and paper towels in his big chest freezer.
Anything that is bulky and will not be hurt by being frozen, could be put in the freezer.
The less air space the freezer or refrigerator has to keep cold, the more efficient it will run and thus it helps to lower your electric bill.
Got extra paper plates or glasses – store them in your freezer if need be.
I like to buy day old bread at a bread store or home town bakery and I freeze it.
Got some clothes you need to store, put them in bags and put them in your freezer – that way you fill up your freezer and have a place to store your clothes at the sametime.
Found some good deals, just remove the extra items and put in your food!
You may need to put these items on the bottom of the freezer and your food on top of them, so you don’t have to go digging everytime you want something. Date your food items, so that you know how long they have been in there.
