Be Nice To Your Plants – Dust Them!

christmas cactus

Here it is January, and your plants maybe becoming alittle dusty, I know mine were, and I also needed to transplant one of my Christmas cactuses.

I was going to repot the cactus earlier, but then noticed it was developing blossoms, so decided to wait. I didn’t want to disturb its blooming cycle by transplanting it.

So today I transplanted it into a new larger pot. Hopefully now it won’t dry out so fast, and the water won’t just run through it, when it is watered.

While transplanting it, I also gave it a “bath”. I had the pot sitting in my kitchen sink, so I sprayed it with my hand sprayer, connected to my faucet. Then I dried it off with a microfiber hand towel.

I used a microfiber dish cloth to cleanup the dirt particles and water “left-over” from potting. Microfiber is an excellent “dirt picker-upper”! Next time you have a potting job to do, keep a microfiber cleaning cloth around to help with cleanup.

And don’t forget to dust your plants. They will love you for it; for it helps them absorb sunlight better, keeping them healthy and happy! You can dust them by wiping them off with a slightly damp microfiber cloth.

Clean Blinds Easily!

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Is cleaning your blinds not one of your favorite jobs?

Well cleaning them with a damp microfiber all purpose cloth will help you 16 x 16 Assorted Microfiber All Purpose Cloths (500 x 305)get that job done quicker and more efficiently. The microfiber picks up the dirt instead of just smearing it around. You will have to use fewer strokes to get them clean.

Yesterday, my husband and I went and washed windows & doors, cleaned blinds, cleaned fans, refrigerator at our church. It was quick work to let the blinds down, turn them so they were flat one way, wipe them off, turn them the other way and wipe off the back side.

High Duster doing fanMy husband used our new microfiber high duster to wipe off the fan blades. It works wonderfully for getting under appliances and removing cobwebs in the corners.

He then used the microfiber mop to wash some of the higher windows that were difficult to reach standing on the floor or ground outside. He just wet the mop pad and wiped down the sMop kit - 6 ft extension alumunium handle, 2 mop padstained glass windows. The mop comes with 2 mop pads, you could wash with one and dry with the other. Or if you can spray the windows, then wipe with a dry pad. The all purpose cloths will also “stick” to the Velcro on the mop head.

Both the mop and the high duster come with 6 ft extension handles. This allows you to get to both the high and low places.

12 x 12 Sage green scrubbing dish cloth (500 x 415)An easier way to clean the refrigerator is to use a microfiber dish cloth, just dampen it in hot water and wipe out all the areas of the refrigerator. At home, I don’t always remove all the items. If a rack is dirty I just use a damp microfiber dish cloth to wipe it off.

You can clean all these items without using chemical cleaners, all you need is a bucket of hot water.

Microfiber Care!

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Microfiber care is a little different than taking care of your cotton items.

Microfiber is made up of a blend of polyester and polyamide, the polyester gives it durablilty and softness, and the polyamide gives it absorability.

If you use bleach on microfiber you will destroy the fibers, using fabric softners coats the fibers so they won’t absorb. You can wash your microfiber with regular detergent, but I suggest using HOT water at least sometimes when washing them. We don’t use hot water much for washing clothes anymore, but microfiber loves hot water. It causes the fibers to swell pushing out the dirt.

If you are finding that your microfiber is becoming stiff, nonabsorbent or smelly, it is probably not clean. Soak it in hot water and detergent, one that doesn’t contain fabric softners or an oxygen bleach, “work” the cloth and rinse well. Be careful of using store bought detergents as they may contain fabric softners without having it listed on the label. Try using more natural, pure detergents.

When using microfiber dish cloths, rinse well when you have finished using. This year I have found I have had more of a problem with “smelly” dish cloths than in the past. This year my husband got “retired” from his job, so he has been doing dishs more, and we had switched to a natural dish soap. It is possible the cloth isn’t getting rinsed as well, and since it is a less harsh dish soap, more grease and grime is being left in the cloth, thus causing it to smell. Since some of the natural dish soaps come from soy products, the oils could be “hanging” in the cloth.

Using bleach on the cloth, will not solve the problem, it will just create more, since bleach will destroy the fibers. Wash it in Hot water and a fat free detergent instead. The fat in some soaps will collect inside the fibers of the cloth. We had this problem with homemade soaps that contain animal fat. It along with dirt, actually plugged up the fibers of our wash cloths. It was quite a job to get that worked back out of the cloth.

The “magic” of the fibers can be a problem if it is not cleaned properly, but if cleaned adequately they will last a long time.

One final point – do not dry your microfiber in high heat, it will “fry” the fibers overtime. Microfiber dries quite well on low heat, and will dry in less time on low heat, than a cotton towel on high heat. So save money and save on your microfiber as well.

Need a cleaner for your microfiber, try out our natural cleaning products @ www.MerryMicrofiberNaturalCleaners.com. Oxy – Boost is an excellent oxygen cleaner, it is better than OxiClean. You will use less, for greater cleaning benefits. The powdered laundry detergent also contains Oxy – Boost.

A Larger All Purpose/Hand/Spa Towel!

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Have you been wanting a bigger towel for bigger cleaning jobs, or for washing your car. Well the 16″ x 24″ microfiber all purpose towel should do the trick. Assorted 16 x 24 microfiber all purpose towels (500 x 375)They also make for fast drying but superabsorbent hand/spa towels.

This towel is a blend of 70% polyester and 30% polyamide, which gives it greater absorbability. Some people may call this a poorer towel, because it has less microfiber. It is actually a better towel, because it absorbs more.

Microfiber refers to “micro” fibers, and that is what polyester is today – “microfiber”, compared to the coarser fibers of the 1960′s and 70′s.

Clothes, sofas, purses, that say they are 100% microfiber, they  are referring to – that they are 100% polyester. It is soft, durable but not absorbent. You don’t want an absorbent couch, you want one resistant to liquids, so they stay cleaner, because the liquids will bead up on them.

Microfiber cleaning cloths and bath towels can be any combination of polyester and polyamide. The higher the ratio of polyester – the softer it is. The higher the ratio of polyamide – the more absorbent it is. So be careful when you buy “cheap” microfiber, for it is microfiber by name, but it makes for a poor cleaning towel. I know I have bought them.

So if you are looking for a cleaning towel – hand towel with great absorbability, this ratio of 70/30, is about the best. They are much more difficult to find in the market place, but I prefer them over the 80/20′s, even though that product can be very soft and quite absorbent.

The absorbability of the towel is also affected by the weight – of how thick it is, with the super thick’s holding more dirt and liquids than a thinner one. But when comparing same weight, thickness, a 70/30 will out preform an 80/20.

With that explanation in place, I had been looking for a wholesaler of 70/30′s, and have now been able to add them to my line. I will soon be carrying again 70/30′s in the 16″ x 16″s.

Are You Struggling In Trying To Clean Your House?

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Struggle no more! Cleaning is easier, faster and more efficient when cleaning with microfiber cloths, towels, mitts or mops. Microfiber grabs the dirt, pulling it into the cloth – out of your way.

Do you hate dusting like me?

Since I started cleaning my house with microfiber, I need to dust less often; this is because I have less dust being stirred up and onto my furniture and shelves.

“Sweeping” my laminate floors with a microfiber mop helps to pick up even the fine dust particles, leaving your floor and air cleaner. A microfiber mop will work well on any hard surface floor. After I “sweep” my floors with a dry mop pad, I just wet the pad and mop up any dirt spots. The mop leaves little water on the floor, thereby it dries faster too.

One of my customers stated she loved her mop for cleaning up pet hair. She had all hard surface floors and dogs. She loved it for picking up all the hair left by her dogs, it really helped her to clean up her floors faster and easier.

Got windows to wash, do it with a microfiber cloth. Wet one in hot water and wash, using another to dry with. Windows will be cleaner because you aren’t using a petroleum based window cleaner, that can cause smearing and leave a film behind to attract dirt. I have found I can wash my windows allot faster using a microfiber cloth, since I don’t have to keep redoing to get rid of streaks and smudges.

Do you love stainless steel appliances but hate cleaning them? Wash them with a microfiber dish cloth. Just wash and walk away, it couldn’t be easier!

Clean Your Vinyl Siding – The “Green” Way!

Vinyl Siding

Is the vinyl siding on your house dirty, green or moldy?

Clean it with Exterior PROx – Deck & Patio Cleaner, a mop or a microfiber cloth. These products will remove the dirt, grime and mold quickly and easily.

We have cleaned our house with a number of other products, liquid siding cleaners – some are of which are quite toxic to plants. But Exterior PROx is safe for you and the environment. We didn’t have to cover the plants or wait till they had died down in the fall, to wash the house.

This product cut through the dirt and mold quite easily, rinsing completely, leaving our house looking like new again.

We use a microfiber cloth with it’s pulling power on the bottom rows, and with a ladder and sponge mop cleaning the upper rows of siding. I like to wash our “house” about once a year, but the tops of the north and south ends have been neglected, since we didn’t have a ladder tall enough to reach them. But yesterday the whole house got its bath!

While I was at it, I cleaned up my plastic chairs as well, getting rid of the dirt and grime. Another day we will clean the decks.

One thing I noticed is that the Exterior PROx removed spots of black grime left over when I had put linseed oil on our deck and railings. You don’t see the spots until the dirt has stuck to it. Those spots came off quite nicely without allot scrubbing with my microfiber cloth and the cleaner. Other times I have had to try and remove it with a goop cleaner, which didn’t work as well.
