Do you have a problem with getting your windows sparkling clean and streak free? Have you ever washed your windows thinking you had them sparkling clean; only to discover, that when the sun came around, they were still streaked. I have lots of times, till I found microfiber cloths and towels.

Other tips I have used before microfiber towels are:

  • Using newspapers to dry the windows with, but that left you with carbon on your hands from the print on the paper.
  • Using a little vinegar in the water helps to cut dirt and grime.
  • Wiping the inside of the windows in one direction and the outside in the opposite direction. This helped me to know which side I had to redo.
  • Another trick my mom used to use (on her windows that would get coated with road grime) was to wash her front porch windows with oven cleaner. It was the only way she could get them clean. She lived on a heavily traveled state highway, with lots of trucks and farm traffic. So that left her windows with lots of oil, dirt and exhaust residue on them.
  • But my favorite tip was when I discovered microfiber towels and cloths to wash and dry my windows with.

What microfiber towels I like best to use:

Microfiber comes in various textures and blends and so to clean windows, I recommend a wet suede 16″ x 16″
Microfiber cloth for washing and a 20″ x 40″ MerryMicrofiber waffle weave towel for drying. Just one 20″ x 40″ waffle weave will dry numerous windows with just this one towel, because of its special built in “pockets” that whisk the moisture away, first into the pocket and then deep into the fabric of the towel, leaving your window dry and streak free. Depending on how many windows you have, you could use two to three 16″ x 16″ terry all purpose MerryMicrofiber towels for both washing and drying, or wash with a MerryMicrofiber towel and allow to air dry. Just remember to rinse your cloth/towel frequently in hot water to avoid streaking.

IHow does the microfiber towel work?

The unique technology of the microfiber blend, gives you a towel that is soft, durable, dirt grabbing and absorbent. The microfiber blend is made up of polyester and polyamide (nylon). The polyester gives it it’s softness, and the polyamide gives it it’s absorbability. The “star” wedges gives it it’s scrubbing ability, with it’s thousands of surface edges. This technology allows the fibers to pick up the dirt and pull it into the towel not just pushing it ahead of itself, like cotton does. This technology helps to save you time and money, using less effort to wash your windows and mirrors, in your home, office or vehicle. You can eliminate your window cleaners and paper towels using microfiber; having only to do it once and your window(s) will be clean. I have even just washed my patio door with a damp microfiber cloth and walked away, allowing it to just air dry.

I recommend using hot water for rinsing your towels as you clean. The hot water causes the fibers to swell, thus forcing the dirt, oil and grime out of the fibers into your water.

Got A Swiffer – Save Money With A Microfiber Cloth!

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Do you have a “Swiffer” or Pledge Sweeper?

Are you tired of having to buy cloths to use on them?

Are you looking for a better alternative?

Try a microfiber cloth instead!

Just place a 16 x 16 all purpose microfiber cleaning cloth around the head, pushing the ends into the holes on the top of the sweeper, and dust away. When full of dirt, remove and shake out; when finished just wash in your regular laundry or rinse out in detergent and hot water.

Need to mop the floor, just wet the cloth in hot water and mop up those dirty spots. Works great on all hard surface floors.

Got a window you can’t reach, try washing it with your sweeper with a wet cloth attached. Just dry it with a dry cloth attached to the mop.

Toxic Dust – What’s That?

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Did you know the dust in your house can be toxic?

I didn’t till I read this article:  TIP 9: GET RID OF THAT (TOXIC) DUST. It talked about what toxic dust is and how it gets into your home. They suggested ways to get rid of toxic dust and/or reduce the amount you have in your home.

One of their suggestions was cleaning with a microfiber cloth. Microfiber does a better job of picking up dust and dirt than a cotton cloth and you don’t need any sprays. The sprays can also contribute to toxic dust in your home. The fewer cleaners we use, the less toxic dust you may have.

Microfiber cloths can be used wet or dry for dusting. I like to use a slightly dampened suede cloth. It grabs the dirt holding it, in the cloth, till I rinse it out. It saves time dusting, because you need fewer swipes to clean, and since you aren’t putting dust particles back into the air, you may have to dust less often. And a hurrah for that!

So leave greener and healthier by cleaning with microfiber cleaning products.

Are You Struggling In Trying To Clean Your House?

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Struggle no more! Cleaning is easier, faster and more efficient when cleaning with microfiber cloths, towels, mitts or mops. Microfiber grabs the dirt, pulling it into the cloth – out of your way.

Do you hate dusting like me?

Since I started cleaning my house with microfiber, I need to dust less often; this is because I have less dust being stirred up and onto my furniture and shelves.

“Sweeping” my laminate floors with a microfiber mop helps to pick up even the fine dust particles, leaving your floor and air cleaner. A microfiber mop will work well on any hard surface floor. After I “sweep” my floors with a dry mop pad, I just wet the pad and mop up any dirt spots. The mop leaves little water on the floor, thereby it dries faster too.

One of my customers stated she loved her mop for cleaning up pet hair. She had all hard surface floors and dogs. She loved it for picking up all the hair left by her dogs, it really helped her to clean up her floors faster and easier.

Got windows to wash, do it with a microfiber cloth. Wet one in hot water and wash, using another to dry with. Windows will be cleaner because you aren’t using a petroleum based window cleaner, that can cause smearing and leave a film behind to attract dirt. I have found I can wash my windows allot faster using a microfiber cloth, since I don’t have to keep redoing to get rid of streaks and smudges.

Do you love stainless steel appliances but hate cleaning them? Wash them with a microfiber dish cloth. Just wash and walk away, it couldn’t be easier!

Wash Your Vehicle The Easy Way!

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Washing our vehicles happens about once a year, and we finally got at it this week. An easy way to fully clean your vehicle is with microfiber cloths. Use a terry one to wash  and a suede to polish with.Washed truck The thicker the terry the more pulling power it has; so we washed with the superplush microfiber towel.

The terry will help pull that dirt, grime right off. I if you use a terry microfiber cloth to polish with after waxing,  it will also pull the wax off. So when polishing – use a microfiber suede polishing cloth. The polishing cloth will give a nice shine without destroying your wax job.

Clean the inside with a terry microfiber cloth. I use a wet cloth to wash all the windows, following up with a dry cloth. Then use the wet one to “dust” all the hard surfaces on the inside of the vehicle. You can even use a wet microfiber cloth to clean up the upholstery also.

A few years ago I found some car washing liquid and liquid wax from Turtle Wax that you could hook the bottle right on your hose, washing and waxing without all the rubbing of paste wax. It worked really well, but now I can’t find their Jet Wax. I did find on www.AutoAnything.com  Griot’s Garage Spray-On Wax and Waterless Car Wash. So with these and microfiber cloths even if you live in an apartment, have a water shortage in your area etc. you can still wash and wax your own vehicles.

Have a beautifully washed vehicle the easy way!

Save Money By Reusing!

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

In today’s Everyday Cheapskate’s newsletter was ideas on how to save money by cutting costs in half. Some other ideas are as follows.

One way is to use less paper towels – cleaning up with a microfiber dish cloth will save you on paper toweling. They wipe up spills quickly and easily without leaving hardly a film behind. Wash windows with a microfiber all purpose towel and not only will you save money on paper toweling but you don’t need window cleaner either. Just use water!

Dilute out your soap by using foamer bottles. I found some foamers online @ http://www.bottlesandfoamers.com, quite reasonable. You can get a 7.1 oz bottle for $1.19 plus shipping. Buy a bunch and save money on shipping.

You can dilute your liquid soap from one-half to one-fourth, thereby stretching out your dollar.  These are great for hand soap, most of the time one pump will do, we dilute out our soap for the shower too, using one of these.  Got kids then you need a foamer. Get some for all of your showers and sinks in your house.

On my natural cleaning products site I have concentrated hand soap and hair and body wash, We use them in our foamers. Diluting them at a half was a little thick for the foamer to work well, so I suggest about filling the bottle one third with the soap and the rest water. Then shake it up to mix.

Use less laundry detergent, when my daughter got a water softener put in, the installer told her not to add detergent to her laundry for the first few times; because her clothes probably contained laundry detergent residue. Look closer at the lines in the cups and use less. As suggested by a reader of Everyday Cheapskate, I did discovered I didn’t need a whole capful, but only a  quarter of a cap. Don’t be fooled into thinking that you have to put in a whole cap of laundry detergent. Figure out your ounces as suggested in the directions on the label.
